Woolsthorpe Primary school featured in a recent Deakin presentation on the creative use of iPads in early literacy learning. The theme of the Pacific Early Childhood Education Research Association conference in Singapore was “Building a Community of Researchers : Children at the Heart of Research.” Terri Redpath, a lecturer from the Faculty of Arts and Education at the Deakin’s Warrnambool campus, drew upon innovative use of mobile technologies at Woolsthorpe to illustrate the way young children learn when given opportunities in a school which encourages technology use.
The conference attracted delegates from Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Nepal, Taiwan, Thailand and the USA. “It was wonderful to draw upon the Woolsthorpe blog and the student work samples and YouTube clips to show the international audience of educators what the school does. The conference delegates were so impressed. Especially they commented on the creative use of iPads by Sarah Daly in the prep room and the vision for mobile technology underpinning the Principal’s allocation of resources and the curriculum direction.”
