Welcome back for the 2015 school year. We hope you had a great holiday and are ready for a big year of learning and fun. We send out a warm welcome to our new families and our Prep students. We hope you enjoy your time at Woolsthorpe Primary School. It was great to see our new Preps enjoy their first full day with Mrs Austen. They looked very grown up in their uniforms and were very excited to start their learning journeys.
At the end of last year we had 3 new students enrol which brings our total number of students this year to 94. As I often say when new students enrol here at Woolsthorpe Primary School the whole family becomes part of our school community. We want all our families to be involved in school life and feel you can support your child’s learning journey by participating in school activities and events like Kitchen Garden. I am a strong believer that learning is a partnership between school and home, and the more we work together to support our students the better we can provide a learning experience that is supportive and personal.
Our wonderful Parents and Friends Association have been busy over the summer holidays cooking our Famous Woolsthorpe Primary School Pancakes at Port Fairy and the Lake Pertobe Markets. A big thank you to all our families who did a Pancake Shift over the holidays. Thanks also to the parents that watered and kept our veggie garden going.
Over the holidays work began on the basketball court area, with the new fence and court surface to be upgraded this term. Thanks to our School Council grounds committee for co-ordinating these works in the holidays.
Term 1 is busy with our House Sports and Moyne Sports. Student Leadership and Discovery Learning is a big focus this year with our senior students participating again in the Student Leaders Congress. Our Kitchen Garden Program will be bigger and better in 2015 and our Playgroup will again be running many exciting and different early learning programs at school. All families with young children in the area are welcome to contact the school for details. 2015 is also our School Biannual Fete, in October. Traditionally this is the biggest fund raiser for the school and a great community school event. We will be calling on all families to chip in and get involved in some way. Co-ordinator meetings will take place in the coming weeks.
We welcome back Mrs Laura Cumming (formerly Miss Christensen) from family leave. Laura will be teaching Art and Science on Monday and Tuesday. All students this year will do 1 hour of Science, Art and Chinese (Fridays with Miss Han). We also welcome Miss Jacci Vandenberg who is teaching the Grade 2/3 class. Miss Vandenberg is very excited about her move to the area and looking forward to meeting families and students over the coming weeks.
Our Woolsthorpe Primary School Website, Facebook page, along with our Thursday Newsletter, form an important part of our communication strategy between home and school. Another great way to find out all that’s happening here at school is via our daily/weekly Twitter feeds Follow the school or your child’s class. This year from time to time there will be competitions announced via Twitter. So please hop on and see all the great things happening.
Again, welcome back to a new year of learning and discovery. I look forward to working with all families in 2015.
