“Learning by doing”– On reflection there has been a lot of learning taking place across the school in such a short term this term. Students have settled nicely into their new grades and continued to grow and improve. Our new Prep students are now thriving and are really enjoying their school experience. The smiles on their faces each day say it all. Teachers are always looking for new and engaging ways of enhancing the learning environment of our students. While our school is focused on Literacy and Numeracy at all times, we are always challenging students to explore, dig deeper with their learning and investigate new ideas. We do this through our Creative Arts and Science specialist programs and our Discovery Learning. This term students have been doing numerous projects in Discovery Learning time in which they explore areas of passion and talent. Students have been learning about our Learner Traits during our whole school house initiatives’ on Thursday afternoons. These Traits are what we believe makes us successful as learners and people who can work and contribute to society. Our Learning Process iBook is live on the iBooks store for parents to download and read. Staff have been active as always in term 1, attending local Professional Learning and learning together in teams on Monday and Tuesday nights. Our Staff are always learning and looking for new ways of supporting all students to achieve their best.
The Kitchen Garden program goes from strength to strength. Thanks to our amazing parent volunteers and helpers. Student’s knowledge and skills have certainly improved and their ability to link literacy and numeracy skills to cooking and gardening has been great to see evolve.
ANZAC DAY CEREMONY Next term, week 2 we will be holding an ANZAC Day ceremony at school on Friday April 24th. This ceremony is run by the student leaders. We invite all local community members and parents to come along and be part of the ceremony at 10.30am. Our student leaders and staff will also be laying a wreath at the ANZAC day ceremony in Warrnambool on Saturday April 25th.
THE LION KING As mentioned last week, we are having a whole school excursion to The Lion King at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne. This will be organised by some parent school councillors and staff. It will be subsided by the school and PFA, as we have done in past years. The date of the excursion is September 2nd. Further details will go home closer to the event.
