Welcome Back

thumb_IMG_6822_1024 thumb_IMG_6827_1024Dear Families,

Welcome back for the 2016 school year. We hope you had a great holiday and are ready for a big year of learning and fun. We send out a warm welcome to our new families and our Prep students. We hope you enjoy your time at Woolsthorpe Primary School. It was great to see our new Preps enjoy their first full day with Mrs Austen. They looked very grown up in their uniforms and were very excited to start their learning journeys. We have 14 new prep students, which brings our total number of students this year to 98. As I often say, when we enrol new students here at Woolsthorpe Primary School, the whole family becomes part of our school and learning community. We welcome all our families to be involved in school life and feel you can support your child’s learning by participating in school activities and events like our Kitchen Garden Program, Discovery Learning, PFA pancake events, classroom helpers, sports days and many other programs. I am a strong believer that learning is a partnership between school and home, and the more we work together to support our students the  better we can provide a learning experience that is supportive and personal for each child.

Our wonderful PFA and parent helpers have been busy over the summer holidays cooking our Famous Woolsthorpe Primary School Pancakes at Port Fairy and the Lake Pertobe Markets. A big thank you to all our families who did a Pancake Shift over the holidays. Thanks also to the parents that watered and kept our veggie garden and lawns alive. Over the holidays our new PFA and Storage shed was built. This will house our new pancake trailer, be used for school storage and other PFA items. Thanks to our School Council grounds committee for co-ordinating these works in the school holidays.

thumb_IMG_6835_1024Term 1 is always lots of fun with our school House Sports Program. The House Sports are a great way to start the school year off by revisiting our Trademark values of,  Respect, Excellence, Care and Teamwork, across the school. As in past years, the House Sports Day is a whole family event, please save this day in your diary. Thursday, March 3. We have our PFA welcome BBQ on this day also. Our Learning Process and Discovery Learning is a big focus again this year, with some exciting changes and new features. We will be involving parents, where possible, in our Discovery Learning day, by inviting parents/grandparents/community members in to share their own talents, passions and interests. This will ignite further Discoveries and interests in student’s thinking and build connections in our community. Shortly wewill be sending home some more information and gathering feedback.

Our Kitchen Garden Program will see some new and exiting changes. We are looking for new parent helpers for our cooking days and gardening projects. This year we have a parent Kitchen Garden team. If you are interested in helping and getting involved please leave your name with Suzi. Information about the Kitchen Garden Program will come home soon.

thumb_IMG_6829_1024Parent Teacher Conferences are in Term 1, the week of March 21. Stay tuned also for our Playgroup dates and events. We encourage allfamilies in the area with pre school children to get involved in our Playgroup activities and fun, which are here at school each term.

Communication and Information. Our Woolsthorpe Primary School Website, Facebook page, along with our Thursday Newsletter, form an important part of our communication strategy between home and school.

Tiqbiz. All parents must have Tiqbiz set up on their phones/devices to access our weekly newsletter. We will also be using Tiqbiz as a messaging service and to send out updates, notes and other information. If you need helpto set up Tiqbiz we can do this at school for you. Please contact Suzi.

Twitter. Another great way to find out all that’s happening here at school is via our daily/weekly Twitter feed Follow the school or your child’s class. See all the great things happening.

Parent Information Booklet. We have updated our Parent Information Booklet. A copy will come home soon for all families via Tiqbiz. It is important that all parents read the booklet and keep it handy. Many of the day to day operations and processes of the school are mentioned in the booklet. Any questions please call the office.

If your contact details or email have changed lately please ensure these are changed at school with Suzi. We must have up-to-date information in case of an emergency.

Again, welcome back to a new year of learning, fun and discovery. I look forward to meeting parents, students and working with all families in 2016.
