Welcome back to the 2017 school year. We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and summer break. I’m sure students are refreshed ready for another year of new learning opportunities and fun. We send out a warm welcome to our new families and Prep students. It was great to see our Preps enjoy their first day with Mrs Austen and start their learning journey here at Woolsthorpe.
Our wonderful PFA and parent helpers have again gone above and beyond over the summer holidays cooking our famous Woolsthorpe Primary School Pancakes at Port Fairy Parks, Koroit Truck Show and the Lake Pertobe Markets. A big thank you to all our families (and friends) who did a Pancake shift over the holidays. Your dedication to our school doesn’t go unnoticed, and we thank you for your continued support.
A big thank you also to the parents and students who watered our school oval and kept our veggie garden in good order during the holidays. The new oval is looking green and ready to go for our PE/Sport programs and lunch time cricket/football games.
Term 1 is always lots of fun with our school House Sports (athletics) Program. The House Sports are a great way to start the school year off, revisiting our Trademark values of Respect, Excellence, Care and Teamwork, across the school. As in past years, the House Sports Day at Brauerander Park is a whole day family event, please save this day in your diary: Wednesday, March 15. We have our PFA welcome BBQ on this day also and the whole family is welcome.
This year we have our School Fete – Country Fair. Traditionally held every two years, this is the biggest fundraising event for the school. It is also a great school community event, showcasing our amazing school to the families in our local community and area. We will be calling on everyone, to chip in and get involved in some way. We cannot hold our Fete without all families helping. Fete co-ordinator meetings will take place over the coming weeks, as work begins planning for our Country Fair. If there are businesses out there interested, we will again be offering sponsorship packages and opportunities.
Our Kitchen Garden Program will kick off again with our grade 5/6s on February 13. We are always looking for new parent helpers for our cooking days and gardening projects. If you are interested in helping and getting involved please leave your name with Suzi. Information about the Kitchen Garden Program will come home soon in our newsletter.
Communication and Information
Our Tiqbiz App along with our School Newsletter, is how we communicate between home and school with Parents. This year our school newsletter will be published Fortnightly with Tiqbiz used more for day to day communication and reminders. All parents need the Tiqbiz App set up on their phones to access our newsletter and receive information and updates. The newsletter is also emailed and on our school website.
We will also be using the Tiqbiz App as a messaging service for updates, notes and other information. If you need help to set up the Tiqbiz App on your phone please contact Suzi.
A great way to see and find out all that’s happening here at school in the classroom is via our Twitter feeds. Follow the school @woolsthorpeps and your child’s class to see all the great things happening.
Our school Facebook page has posts and updates, along with some information about programs and events. The Kitchen Garden Program has a Facebook page also, where they are sharing all the great things happening in the garden and recipes they are cooking.
Again, welcome back to a new year of learning, fun and discovery. I look forward to meeting new parents, students and working with all families in 2017.
